since motor racing can be an exhilarating experience (either as a driver or spectator)...it is difficult to maintain an emotionally calm state...however when operating a racing vehicle at speed, all focus will be manifested quickly...therefore it is important to maintain a clear mind, so that one can be conscious of the info being transmitted from the vehicle...it is a very good measure of one's clarity, in that any instability within oneself... will be directly transfered to the vehicle via your reactions...in fact the faster the vehicle goes...the more still you must become, so you do not over compensate ...IT'S A MATTER OF JUST ENOUGH... AT EXACTLY THE RIGHT MOMENT !!

Exavtly. I started racing when I was 5, and I have since been diagnosed with ADD and AHAD. but as soon as I slide behind a wheel the world melts away and I focus only on my task ahead. Its awesome, its almost like my meditation.

attention deficit?
03/03Thanks for this post...too many people judge ADD & AHAD...i find your ability an interesting contrast to Ritalin jokes and Bart's (the Simpsons) escapades...My point was that really good driving is meditation...specifically because you must clear your mind each moment, in case of an unexpected instability (accident?) from another driver's actions (or inactions). This also allows you to be consistent each lap, and then save the pass for the last lap! -

Re: attention deficit?
03/03I have had a bunch of people ask me if I take Ritalin but more people ask me if I know the guy on "The Fast and the Furious" ( kid with add) I just have to grin and say that the studio used me as their motivation for him. That usually keeps them quiet.(Of course they didnt, but no matter) but you know how the saying goes, "The jokes all stop when the green flag drops."
